Note that you must enter the number of reactors (or other units) and the number of substrates for each. These numbers are used to estimate the internal standard deviations for the plotter and are not required for calculation of 'best-fit' parameters.
The optimal number of units is determined by the number of samples needed to achieve S. For two-dimensional plots, S is the number of different substrates. Thus, each plot must represent the average over all operating conditions possible for the process. As this number increases, the detailed representation of the process becomes more difficult to simulate because the data sets become larger and larger. The objective is to maximize S while minimizing the number of reactors required. Under these conditions, S should be a reasonable minimum number. For a simple process, S can be as small as 5.
In addition, because of the wide variety of units available and the difficulties in obtaining good statistics, it is often best to try a range of different numbers of reactors in the simulated process. This is much more realistic than trying a single reactor operational condition.
Within Aspen Plus, document the intended process in a text file. This is done as a simple text editor. This file must contain (1) the 'Identifier' of the process, (2) all process and component parameters, (3) initial conditions and any recirculation paths, and (4) the desired 'time' schedule.
