I tried but my Apple devices all use Music and not iTines. Music does not let me access ringtones at all. Also, when I connect the iPhone to my Mac via USB it shows up in Finder's devices column but clicking on it will only show me a sync window with options for music, photos, movies, files etc but no ringtones.
Most people prefer to use custom ringtones instead of the default ringtones on iPhone. However, you may feel confused about how to set the custom ringtone. If you have tried it, you will find that there is no direct way to set a song as a ringtone on iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro (Max), iPhone 12 mini, iPhone `4/`3, etc.
Well, the fact is that Apple makes it difficult for users to set custom ringtones and hopes you will pay a dollar or more to buy ringtones from iTunes Store. Luckily, there are two ways that can help you set your favorite songs as ringtones for call, text message, alarm, or notification. Keep reading to learn more.
3. Long-press on the song that you want to set as a ringtone > Drop the files as the second track > Tap on this track and drag the ends to trim the audio. You can tap the Play to play it back.
6. Name the ringtone > Tap Export > When the export is successful, tap Use sound as... > Then you will give the choice to set the ringtone as default ringtone, text message, or for a specific contact. Or you can tap Done to add it to the list of ringtones.
If you have songs or ringtones stored on computer, you can take advantage of iTunes to help you add ringtones to iPhone 12. If you want to set a song as a ringtone, you can first convert the song to a ringtone and then sync the ringtone to iPhone. Or if the file is already in ringtone format, you can start with Step 2 to see how to add ringtones to iPhone 12.
Now you know where to download free ringtones for iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro (Max), iPhone 12 mini. To change ringtones on iPhone 12 directly, you can use GarageBand to set a song as a ringtone. Or if you have stored songs on computer, you can let iTunes help you add ringtones to iPhone 12.
The song plays fine in the app, it just does not work with the alarm, in fact any song I chose does not play, the alarm just vibrates, but if I chose a ringtone it works, it just won't work with songs. I have Apple Music subscription as well.
If what is included in iOS doesn't work for you, there's also a sea of ringtones available to buy from the iTunes Store. With a wealth of sounds available, you could easily acquire part of a favorite song to hear whenever your phone starts ringing.
Doing so this way also allows you to find out what the ringtone sounds like through the iPhone's speakers before officially setting it as the ringtone. Further tweaks can be made before the final export.
If you're tired of the default ringtones that come with your iPhone, you can change them by adding some new tones to your device from a computer or another iPhone with a data transfer tool or creating some new ringtones with iTunes, a ringtone maker. Whichever way you prefer, you can follow the paragraphs below to add ringtones to iPhone 12/11/XR/XS/X/8/7/6.
Other than ringtones, other types of content, like photos, videos, music, contacts, books, and more, are also supported. Whether you want to add ringtones to the iPhone or put music on iPhone, you can apply this tool.
Step 3. Select the ringtone you wish to transfer from your computer > Click \"Open\" to start the transferring. After it completes, you can go to Settings on your iPhone > Tap \"Sounds & Haptics\" > \"Ringtone\" to check ringtones on your iPhone.
Method 1 is available for users who have created a ringtone and need to add it to their devices. But if you haven't made a ringtone, you may need to create one with iTunes first. iTunes could help you to make a song a ringtone and then sync the ringtones to your iPhone. The only flaw of using iTunes is that it is relatively complex compared with other methods available because you need to make a ringtone by yourself.

Some iPhone users may notice that trying to drag a ringtone or text tone to their device through iTunes, Music app, or Finder fails. You connect the iPhone (or iPad) to the Mac or Windows PC, open iTunes, Music, or Finder, select the device as required, but when trying to manually drag and drop a ringtone into iTunes to copy it to the iPhone, nothing happens.
Keep in mind this is just one of a variety of ways of getting ringtones on the iPhone. You can buy them from the iTunes Store, you can set songs as ringtones using GarageBand on iPhone, or even create your own ringtone directly on iPhone using GarageBand too.
* For Macs running MacOS Monterey, Big Sur, or Catalina, the Finder handles management of iPhone, as well as syncing and copying of ringtones and the like. You can also use the Music app on the latest versions of macOS to copy ringtones to the iPhone. Some users appear to have issues with the copy and paste method in Music and Finder, but fortunately the drag and drop method still works there.

99% of my ringtones disappeared after my last recent iTunes upgrade. I have them backed up, and moved the folder to the Finder and dried to drag them into ITunes, Add to Library from inside Itunes, and C&P as you suggested, and they just sit there like Tim Cook doing nothing to improve OSX and iOS as he wastes millions on SJW nonsense.
