Field of the Invention This invention relates to the construction of a one-piece disposable humidifier, and more particularly, to a disposable humidifier apparatus having a molded shell made from a fiber reinforced resin having a chemical resistant surface that is adapted to be placed in a support rack. 2. Description of the Prior Art Disposable humidifiers are known in the prior art. These humidifiers are commonly used in the medical field to provide additional comfort for patients in hospital and other health care facilities. Disposable humidifiers typically have an opaque shell containing a water supply and an impinging surface through which a stream of water is sprayed. The impinging surface contains a water receiving chamber to cause a stream of water to be sprayed onto the patient. The impinging surface typically includes a series of openings, or vent holes, through which water is allowed to flow from the chamber into the impinging surface and onto the patient. The impinging surface is typically constructed of a paper board material. One problem with this construction is that the impinging surface eventually becomes wet with water and must be periodically removed from the shell and placed in a suitable container. The removal of the impinging surface from the shell in order to clean it is a time consuming and difficult task. The impinging surface is both delicate and sticky due to its paper board construction, which makes it difficult to handle without damage. Further, the impinging surface must be removed from the shell and carried to the container in which it will be stored. When carried in a container, the impinging surface must be laid on a horizontal surface in order to prevent damage to the surface as it is lifted. Once in the container, the impinging surface can be rolled or crumpled, which reduces the amount of surface area that can contact the water while preserving the bulk density of the water receiving chamber. Therefore, it is desirable to construct a humidifier that does not require the impinging surface be removed and placed in a container for storage. The typical humidifier of the prior art also has several other disadvantages. First, the impinging surface tends to become distorted during use and requires subsequent flattening to maintain the integrity of the surface. Second, as the impinging surface becomes wetter with water, the pressure of the water stream passing through the impinging surface tends to cause the surface to buckle. This buckling further reduces the area of the surface that contacts the impinging water. Third, the impinging surface has no means for controlling the speed of the impinging stream of water. Finally, the impinging surface in the prior art is separate from the shell and requires a tight seal between the impinging surface and the shell to prevent water loss and water contamination from one side of the impinging surface to the other. This tight seal can only be accomplished by gluing the impinging surface to the shell. Further, the impinging surface and the shell are made of different materials, which necessitates a strong bond between the two materials in order to prevent leakage and water contamination. As the impinging surface is separate from the shell, any particle of dirt, hair or other foreign matter that is generated by the use of the humidifier can easily contaminate the impinging surface. 3d9ccd7d82
